YACHT - A pleasure vessel, a pleasure marine vessel;
in American usage the idea of size and luxury is conveyed, either sail
or power.
YANKEE - The letter Y in the Marine Radio Alphabet, also a foresail flying
above and forward of the jib.
YARD - Spar attached to a mast, used to hoist sails.
YAW - To swing or steer off course, as when running with a quartering
sea.
YAWL - (Dutch Jol) is a two-masted sailing vessel similar to a sloop
or cutter with an additional mizzen mast aft of the main mast, usually
right on the transom. |
