GAFF - The spar ON the upper edge of a sail. A long hook with
a sharp point to haul fish in.
GALLEY - The kitchen area of a marine vessel.
GANGPLANK - a movable bridge used in boarding or leaving a marine vessel
at a pier.
GANGWAY - The area of a marine vessel's side where people board and disembark.
GARBOARD - The strake closest to the keel
GEAR - A general term for ropes, blocks, tackle and other equipment.
GIVE-WAY VESSEL - A term used to describe the vessel which must yield
in meeting, crossing, or overtaking situations.
GOLF - - Letter G in the Marine Radio Alphabet.
GPS - Global Positioning System - A satellite based navigation system
providing worldwide coverage.
GRAB RAILS - Hand-hold fittings mounted on cabin tops and sides for personal
safety when moving around the marine vessel.
GROG - Watered down rum. Yuk!
GROUND TACKLE - A collective term for the anchor and its associated gear.
GUNWALE - The upper edge of a marine vessel's hull. |
